May 2014 Calendar
SCNA MONTHLY MEET-UPS

Each month, SCNA hosts a monthly (clothed) dinner and discussion group at different public restaurants around the greater Los Angeles area. This is a way to introduce new people to naturism and to dispel mistaken impressions that non-nudists may have about us. This meeting is also a required pre-requisite before we can invite you to one of our clothing-optional parties. Anyone with a sincere interest in discussing naturist issues is welcome. This month's Meet-Ups:

San Fernando Valley: Tuesday MAy 13, 6:45PM – 8:30 PM
Pasadena/Glendale: Monday May 19, 6:45PM to 8:30PM
South Bay/Torrance: Thursday May 22, 6:45PM – 8:30 PM
Ventura County: Friday, May 9, 6:45PM – 8:30 PM
Carpinter/Santa Barbara: Tuesday, May 20, 6:45PM – 8:30 PM

CELEBRATE SATURDAY MAY 3
WORLD NUDE GARDENING DAY

People across the globe are encouraged, on the first Saturday of each May to tend their portion of the world's garden clothed as nature intended. The event is fun, costs no money, runs no unwanted risk, reminds us of our tie to the natural world, and does something good for the environment. So what should you do?

First of all, on May 7, find an opportunity to get naked and do some gardening. Do so alone, with friends, with family, with your gardening club, or with any other group collected for that purpose. Do it inside your house, in your back yard, on a hiking trail, at a city park, or on the streets. Stay private or go public. Make it a quiet time or make it a public splash. Just get naked and make your part of the botanical world a healthier and more attractive place.

Secondly, tell someone about your experience. No one owns this event, so it does not really matter whom you tell, but tell someone. Tell your friends about your day of naked gardening; write down what you thought of it and email it to your local newspaper; post your thoughts and images onto an Internet site; submit stories and photos to your club newsletter.

FRIDAY, MAY 9, 2013, 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM

NEW! PALM SPRINGS WEEKEND!

Nestled in the historic Old Las Palmas neighborhood of Palm Springs, Casa de Monte Vista is one of the original homes built in the late 1920s. Frequented by some of the most legendary luminaries from Hollywood, this Old Spanish Estate has the secluded and nostalgic atmosphere that Palm Springs is known for. Owned by Robert Stack in the 1950s, the property was a common gathering place for The Rat Pack during the 1960s. It was recently seen in the Liberace bio-pic movie “Behind The Candelabra” starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.

Casa de Monte Vista is a walled and gated private estate, complete with a “caterer ready” full kitchen, covered patio for dancing, guest casitas, organic herb and vegetable garden, solar powered salt water pool, palatial grounds, lush landscaping and spectacular mountain views.

SUNDAY MAY 18, 9:00 AM - 2:00PM
BARE TO BREAKERS ANNUAL 5K RUN
LOCATION: SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Despite the recent changes in the law regarding public nudity in San Francisco, it is LEGAL to run nude in this annual race as long and you are not exhibiting any lewd behavior. Several hundred nudists co-mingle each year with the thousands of other runners and crazies costumed (or body painted) in everything imaginable.

This is not an SCNA event. We post this notice as a courtesy to our members and other web site visitors who might like to attend (and run naked through a city!)

Nudists need to register in advance at the Bare to Breakers website www.baretobreakers.com/

As in year’s past, Lupin Lodge in Los Gatos will charter a bus to take nudists to the race and back again, since driving in SF is so insane. Cost is $35 for the ride (and well worth it!). Anyone interested call Cindy at Lupin’s office: (408) 353-9200 as space is limited on the bus.

Lupin is also hosting a "Bare to Breakers Weekend Special" including a dinner and dance the night before (May 14th), overnight accommodations in a yurt, taking the Lupin shuttle to San Francisco (and back) with a boxed breakfast, then enjoy the rest of the day at the Lupin pool. Single - $100.00, Couple - $135.00. Call the Lupin office at 408 - 353-9200 to make your reservation.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN WEEKEND!
OLIVE DELL NUDIST PARK, COLTON

$15/day/person if on SCNA list (children under 18 free)
You will pay Olive Dell at their entrance gate for this event, not SCNA.

Many members enjoy this annual “Pirates of the Caribbean” Theme weekend.

This year Olive Dell has hired a band of debauched professional pirates to perform for your entertainment that includes fire eaters, sword fighters, and a couple of very rude parrots. There will be specialty foods and games to fit the occasion.

Saturday afternoon there is an auction and flea market, a fortune telling booth, a Walk the Plank Dunk Tank, "Pelt the Pirate" booth, Tug of War, plus a few other surprises so bring some extra cash. Even though this is normally a nude-only resort you are allowed to wear your best pirate-y gear (except in the pool and Jacuzzi) during the day. In fact, if you DON'T wear something pirate-y you are liable to be thrown into the little jail reserved for uncooperative wenches! Buck 'N' Ear corn on the cob will be sold during the day as a fundraiser for the Juniors.

Saturday night is the traditional Captain Bobby's BBQ Rib Dinner. Reservations and costs for dinner are separate (RSVP when you arrive.) Sorry, no vegetarian dish available. Afterwards there is a "pirate" theme dance scheduled, Prizes for best costume at the dance.

The resort also has pool table, volleyball, a horseshoe pit, and hiking trails.

Regarding overnight accommodations, Olive Dell has “Birdhouse” cabins available for rent but call ahead with your reservation, as they will sell out early for this weekend. You can also bring your own camping gear, as they also have ample camper/trailer overnight space. Offsite Hotel/motel accommodations are available a few miles away. Contact Olive Dell (909) 825-6619.

You MUST sign up in advance to get in at the club rate! Call (818) 225-2273 to RSVP. YOU MUST BE ON OUR SCNA RESERVATION LIST TO GAIN ADMITTANCE. We give them our list the Wednesday night before the event (5/22), so that is your deadline to decide to participate.
