Avila Beach is about a 3 hour drive north of Los Angeles.

Take the 101 (Ventura) freeway north past Santa Barbara and Santa Maria to just above the city of Pismo Beach (about 10 mi south of San Luis Obispo, and south of the Madonna Inn.)

Take the Avila road exit off Hwy 101 (the freeway sign will say "Avila Beach next exit.") Head west for about two miles.

Look for an uphill road named Cave Landing on the left (south) side of the highway. If you get to Avila Beach proper or go past the Diablo Nuclear Power Plant, you have definitely gone too far by a few miles!

Take Cave Landing up the hill to a dirt parking lot on the right overlooking the ocean. This is where you park. Camping."

The beach in down the cliff, just to the south. Take the trail down to this beautiful cove. It is a bit tough to climb back up if you bring a lot of things with you so travel light!
