DIRECTIONS TO SUMMERLAND BEACH, SANTA BARBARA

NOTICE: SUMMERLAND IS NO LONGER A NUDE/CLOTHING OPTIONAL BEACH! POLICE SWEEP THE BEACH PERIODICALLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. YOU WILL BE TICKETED IF YOU DISROBE HERE!

    1. Take the Ventura (101) Freeway just south of the city of Santa Barbara. Exit Evans St.

    2. Turn toward the beach and cross the railroad tracks (if coming from Los Angeles you will pass under the freeway bridge.)

    3. Turn right to the parking lot at Lookout Park, or, alternatively, turn left down a narrow frontage road (Finney Rd). Continue east until it nearly ends and park on the right side (park on the left or park in a no parking area or park anything but "parallel" and you will get a ticket!)

    4. The beach that USED TO BE NUDE is right below this Finney St parking area (a 1/2 mi walk south from the Lookout Park parking area) and slightly to the the south about 1000 yards.

There is a big house along the beach just above where the nude beach section was. The owner used to be "nudist-friendly" but that won't save you if the deputies sweep down the beach.

Note: The farther "south" you walk, the more the beach becomes a "gay beach." Which is probably the reason why the periodic law enforcement sweeps have continued, long after the nudists have left.
