May 2015 Calendar
SCNA MONTHLY MEET-UPS

Each month, SCNA hosts a monthly (clothed) dinner and discussion group at different public restaurants around the greater Los Angeles area. This is a way to introduce new people to naturism and to dispel mistaken impressions that non-nudists may have about us. This meeting is also a required pre-requisite before we can invite you to one of our clothing-optional parties. Anyone with a sincere interest in discussing naturist issues is welcome. This month's Meet-Ups:

San Fernando Valley: Tuesday May 12, 6:45PM – 8:30PM
Pasadena/Glendale: Monday May 18, 6:45PM – 8:30PM
South Bay/Torrance: Thursday May 28, 6:45PM – 8:30PM
Ventura County: Friday, May 8, 6:45PM – 8:30PM
Carpinteria/Santa Barbara: Tuesday, May 19, 6:45PM – 8:30PM

VIVA CINCO DOS DE MAYO!
WEST LA JACUZZI PARTY

LOCATION: WESTCHESTER (NEAR LAX)
MEMBERS: $10, NON-MEMBERS: $20,
AGES 18–25: $5, CHILDREN UNDER 18: FREE

Help us celebrate this popular holiday with a party in West LA! Bring your best Mexican dish to share, SCNA will provide soft drinks.

While we hope the sun breaks through as it usually does, this home is only a few miles from the beach, and it’s early May, so be prepared for any weather.

Games are a tradition at this, so bring one to share (card or board games) or you may choose to play "Catch Phrase," a popular word association game favored by the host. A Jacuzzi is also available for your enjoyment.

RSVP to the club Message Center at (818) 225-2273, send an email to scna@socalnaturist.org, or a pre-payment to PayPal.

Also on SATURDAY MAY 2
CELEBRATE WORLD NAKED GARDENING DAY

People across the globe are encouraged, on the first Saturday of each May to tend their portion of the world's garden clothed as nature intended. The event is fun, costs no money, runs no unwanted risk, reminds us of our tie to the natural world, and does something good for the environment. So what should you do?

First of all, on May 2, find an opportunity to get naked and do some gardening. Do so alone, with friends, with family, with your gardening club, or with any other group collected for that purpose. Do it inside your house, in your back yard, on a hiking trail, at a city park, or on the streets. Stay private or go public. Make it a quiet time or make it a public splash. Just get naked and make your part of the botanical world a healthier and more attractive place.

Secondly, tell someone about your experience. No one owns this event, so it does not really matter whom you tell, but tell someone. Tell your friends about your day of naked gardening; write down what you thought of it and email it to your local newspaper; post your thoughts and images onto an Internet site; submit stories and photos to your club newsletter.

Saturday May 16, 2015 3:30PM – 6:30PM
SPRING NUDE BOWLING!
$20.00 Per Person (MUST BE PAID IN ADVANCE)

  • As before, we have rented out the entire alley for the event, and it has complete privacy from the street. There will be nobody there but us for these 3 hours.
  • We have opened up this event to all our local clubs such as YNA, ANFA, NitOC, Camping Bares and the Olympian club to be sure we can get enough to cover our deposit.
  • The $20 is required to attend (even if you don’t bowl), which is cheaper than if you went to a clothed bowling event and rented shoes, ate food, etc. The cost includes shoes.
  • This will be a finger food pot luck event, as we don’t have time for a sit down meal. The bowling alley will provide water, soft drinks, beer and wine for a nominal sum. They have no kitchen or refrigerator available, so any food you bring must be prepared in advance.
  • We will have prizes for best scores. More information and directions as we get closer to the event. Bowling always sells out, and space is limited, so RSVP early! Call (818) 225-2273.

SUNDAY MAY 17, 9:00AM – 2:00PM
BARE TO BREAKERS ANNUAL 12K RUN
LOCATION: SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Despite the recent changes in the law regarding public nudity in San Francisco, it is LEGAL to run nude in this annual race as long and you are not exhibiting any lewd behavior. Several hundred nudists co-mingle each year with the thousands of other runners and crazies costumed (or body painted) in everything imaginable.

This is not an SCNA event. We post this notice as a courtesy to our members and other web site visitors who might like to attend (and run naked through a city!)

Nudists should register in advance at the Bare to Breakers website www.baretobreakers.com/

As in year’s past, Lupin Lodge in Los Gatos will provide a shuttle to take nudists to the race and back again, since driving in SF is so insane. The shuttle leaves Lupin at 5:00AM and costs (a very reasonable) $40 for the ride. Anyone interested call Lupin’s office at (408) 353-9200 as space is limited on the bus.

Lupin is also providing a “Bare to Breakers Accommodation Special” for one or two nights, including all gate fees, private yurt, one bottle of wine per night, dinner, entertainment, and seats on the B2B shuttle. Single – One Night $125.00 Two Nights $210.00, Couple – One Night $190.00 Two Nights $300.00. Call the Lupin office at 408 - 353-9200 to make your reservation... SOON

You MUST sign up at SCNA in advance to get in at our gate fee! Call (818) 225-2273 to RSVP. We submit our list to Olive Dell the Thursday morning before the event (5/21), so that is your deadline to decide to participate.
