September 2014 Calendar
SCNA MONTHLY MEET-UPS

Each month, SCNA hosts a monthly (clothed) dinner and discussion group at different public restaurants around the greater Los Angeles area. This is a way to introduce new people to naturism and to dispel mistaken impressions that non-nudists may have about us. This meeting is also a required pre-requisite before we can invite you to one of our clothing-optional parties. Anyone with a sincere interest in discussing naturist issues is welcome. This month's Meet-Ups:

San Fernando Valley: Tuesday Sept 9, 6:45PM – 8:30 PM
Pasadena/Glendale: Monday Sept 15, 6:45PM to 8:30PM
South Bay/Torrance: Thursday Sept 18, 6:45PM – 8:30 PM
Ventura County: Friday, Sept 12, 6:45PM – 8:30 PM
Carpintera/Santa Barbara: Tuesday, Sept 16, 6:45PM – 8:30 PM

Saturday, September 6, Noon – 6:00 PM
ZORTHIAN RANCH POOL PARTY
$ 20.00/PERSON

The famous Zorthian Ranch is a 48-acre mountainside retreat in the hills above Altadena and Pasadena, which has been used for fashion shoots, movie locations, and has been the site of the annual LA Folk Festival in years past. It was designed and built by the late Jirayr Zorthian (1911-2004), who was considered a significant artist of the 20th century and whose paintings and sculptures adorn federal buildings, from the Pentagon to Post Offices around the country. The ranch displays many of his works, and it has a large swimming pool, a conference center, and theatrical stage.

We have rented out the entire property for the afternoon, so to cover our costs we are opening up the party to the Olympians, YNA, Camping Bares, and NitOC clubs to enjoy the day with us.

SCNA will provide soda and water. Please bring a pot luck dish to share.

This will be a unique experience for SCNA members to enjoy! For more information about the Ranch, see their web site at: www.zorthianranch.com

Important! We need the full name of any NON-SCNA member at least 36 hours in advance in order to verify membership with the other clubs and/or to check them through the Megan's Law and FBI sexual predator databases. NON-SCNA members will also be required to secure their RSVP's with payment via PayPal, check, or Money Order, 36 hours prior to the event.

PLEASE RSVP to SCNA at (818) 225-2273 or via email to scna@socalnaturist.org. Specific directions will be sent to those who RSVP about five days before the event.

Note: This is the same day as our Nude Yoga Class in Canoga Park. So, go to the class in the morning and come to the Zorthian event afterwards!

Directions to Deep Creek

Saturday, September 13, Meet at 10:30 AM
Nude Hike/Camping Trip to Deep Creek
Location: Bowen Ranch, San Bernardino Mountains

SCNA in joining YNA (Young Naturists America), the Camping Bares and NitOC (the Orange County nudist club) in a joint event at Deep Creek hot springs. There is no charge for this event but you are responsible for your own food and drink to pack in (and to pack out any leftovers!)

We hike in at around 10:30 am Saturday. $5 per person for daytime parking. Pay at the Bowen Ranch entrance, exact change in envelope with license number, if no one there to collect your fees.

Because the 5-mi dirt road from the gate to the parking lot is in very poor condition after the recent rains, a 4-wheel drive truck or pickup is recommended but not required. RSVP early to (818) 225-2273 so we can get a head count and help with any car pooling, which we also recommend.

Wear your name medallion and blue beach hat!

Saturday September 20, 9 AM to Whenever
CALIFORNIA BEACH CLEANUP DAY
Location: Bates Beach, Carpinteria

SCNA and Friends of Bates Beach are participating in this annual event at Bates.

9 AM - Bring gloves to wear and maybe a long-handled picker tool if you have one. Otherwise bags and other material will be provided. The 9am start time is assigned by the state Coastal Commission who is organizing the event statewide. If you can’t make the 9AM start time, you can still come as late at 11 am to help with the second half of the cleanup.

Noon - Bring your own lunch and towel and chair and we can go as a group down to the beach to enjoy it as nature intended!

6 PM - Bring a few extra bucks and come into Carpinteria with the group for dinner afterwards. A great way to spread the word that naturists are consumers to the business community!
